How to work the problem:  To find the total number of guests, add the total number of guests.
3 cats + 3 bats+ 3 ghosts+ 3 witches=12 guests

To find number of supplies,  add the total number of guests plus Mr. Ghost.
3 cats + 3 bats+ 3 ghosts+ 3 witches+ Mr. Ghost=13

Answer 1:       3+3+3+3=12
Answer 2:       13 plates, napkins and cups

 

2nd Place: Salvador Diaz
How to work the problem:
Add everyone’s number of goals.
19+25+34+15+29= 122

Answer: 122 goals

 

4th Grade

1st Place: Lexi Shea
How to work the problem:
Multiple  4 x 1/3
            Or
Add
1/3+1/3+1/3+1/3=4/3

Answer: 4/3= 1 cup 1/3 cup

 

 

2nd Place: Ethan Gonzales
How to work the problem:
Two dozen = 24 cookies
There are 5 family members to divide the cookies between.

24/5= 4 remainder 4
(24 divided by 5)

Answer: Each would get 4 cookies a piece. There would be 4 cookies left.

How to work the problem:
 24 cupcakes-2 that the dog ate=22 cupcakes left
22/2= 11
(22 divided by 2)

Answer: They had 24 cupcakes but their dog ate 2 cupcakes so that means they each get 11 cupcakes.

$100.00+ $50.00- $0.80+$300.75-$78.00+$2.40= $374.35

Answer: $374.35

 

2nd Place: Christopher Robinson
How to work the problem:
1/5 x 5,000= 1,000 people on the second day
1/4 x 1000= 250 children on the third day                            

Answer: 250 children

How to work the problem:
Total number of pets watched:
1+3+2+4=10
Multiplied by $3 per pet:
10 x $3= $30.00
Cost of cell phone minus amount earned:
$40-$30=$10
Divided cost of one pet by the amount needed for the cell phone :
10/3= 3 remainder 1
Since she cannot walk a fraction of a pet, she’ll need to walk one extra to make sure she has enough money for her phone.
